Censure U.S. Representative Fred Upton
WHEREAS: The Michigan Republican Party should recognize that an overwhelming majority of the electorate in the State of Michigan voted to retain President Donald J. Trump as President of the United States. A vocal majority of Michigan Republicans recognize there was significant irregularities and coordinated, unlawful actions in the State of Michigan's election. Representative Upton voted in favor of impeachment of President Donald J. Trump despite the lack of any formal hearing being held, evidence presented, witnesses being sworn to testify, or accusers being questioned.
WHEREAS: The Michigan Republican Party should recognize that an overwhelming majority of the electorate in the State of Michigan are fierce defenders of the U.S. Constitutions, Bill of Rights, Second Amendment. The right of the American people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed. Representative Upton voted in favor to pass Bill H.R. 8 which is in direct contrast to the House GOP's own clearly written and stated platform position. "While Democrats attempt to run roughshod over the Constitution and implement their personal beliefs on Americans across the country, house Republicans stand ready to fight back against them and unapologetically defend the Second Amendment."
THEREFORE, TO BE RESOLVED, The Michigan Republican Party should censure U.S. Representative Fred Upton of Michigan for his actions on Wednesday, January 13th, 2021, and for his actions on Thursday, March 11, 2021 as these actions stand in contradiction to the quantifiable will of much of the electorate of Michigan.
The Michigan Republican Party should call on Representative Upton to immediately resign from his position and allow the Michigan Republican Party to nominate his replacement and immediately repay donations made by the Michigan Republican Party and to any County Party that requests reimbursement.
The Michigan Republican Party should withhold any future political funding for Fred Upton.
